There is no single right answer, but for most homes in Guelph and Waterloo Region, two deep cleans a year, one in spring and one in fall, with regular cleaning in between, is a sensible baseline.
Why spring and fall work in Ontario
Spring follows months of closed windows, forced-air heating and salt tracked in from outside. Dust settles on vents, fan blades and baseboards, and salt residue builds up on entry floors and carpet. A spring deep clean resets all of it. It is also a good time for a carpet clean, once the salt season is over.
Fall is the other natural moment: before the furnace starts running full time, before holiday guests, and before the long indoor months.
When to deep clean more often
- Pets: hair and dander collect on baseboards, vents and upholstery faster
- Young children: more fingerprints, spills and floor-level mess
- Allergies or asthma: more frequent dusting of vents and fixtures can help
- Hard water: if scale builds up quickly on glass and fixtures, bathrooms may need detail work more often
- Renovations: fine dust spreads through the house, even to rooms that were not worked on. See post-construction cleaning
When you can deep clean less often
If a home has regular professional cleaning every week or two, some deep-clean items can be rotated into those visits, and a full deep clean may only be needed once a year. It depends on the home, and we will tell you honestly if you do not need one.
A simple Ontario schedule
- Every visit: kitchen, bathrooms, dusting, floors, garbage
- Monthly or so: a rotating detail task, such as baseboards in one area or the inside of the microwave
- Spring (April–May): full deep clean, carpet clean, windows inside
- Fall (October–November): full deep clean before heating season and the holidays
